humans of classical music

Classical music can be surprising, exhilarating, dramatic, quirky, funny, captivating and comforting, sometimes all at the same time. Musicians, actors, comedians and podcasters from around the world are here to give you their personal recommendations.

Every Thursday in 2021 a different person spoke for up to 1 minute about a piece of music they liked. The videos are all still live on YouTube and Instagram, and you can find a few picks highlighted below.

Humans of Classical Music trailer:

Kieran Hodgson, comedian, actor and writer, introduces the Candide Overture by Leonard Bernstein:

David Lammy, Shadow Foreign Secretary, introduces Hear My Prayer by Felix Mendelssohn:

This is SUCH a great project
— Kieran Hodgson
I love how normal and human and unpretentious it is
— Liz
This sounds like a great idea for classical-curious people who have previously found the idea overwhelming (both in terms of the vast historical arc and the high-art sensibilities) and just need a “way in”.
— Adrian
I hope it continues another year!
