The enigmatic star of Europe’s neo-classical scene ventures into jazz with a Verve Records debut.
Sustaining an impish mystique since, he condemned his given name to obscurity and has donned an ever present, horned Sardinian mask. Before his current fame however, he was a melodic improviser in Bill Evans’ tradition, a jazz man to his bones.
During recent gigs, playing highly melodic, minimalist piano in the style that made his new name, attentive audiences will have discerned the ghosts of that old life, in passages of assured improv.
The jazz musician inside him was otherwise buried, but now it is set to be revealed once again on stage in his highly theatrical live show.
