Postclassical Assembly is a new concert series showcasing composer-performers working a classically-influenced format, each with their own modern, unique, and deeply listenable approach. Beautiful, engaging, accessible music, with no barrier to entry.
This will be an intimate evening of beautifully-woven instrumentals. Join duos Balladeste (violin + cello) and JOW (cello + trumpet) at the delightful Orchard Coffee and Co. in St George.
Balladeste are the combined collaborative powers of violinist Preetha Narayanan and cellist Tara Franks - an ever evolving musical partnership and deep friendship forged over a decade of playing together. Their unique way of writing explores the versatility and sound potential within the ‘confines’ of two string instruments. Balladeste creates a musical narrative that is both ancient yet contemporary through original compositions, improvisation and experimentation.
Drawing on influences as far ranging as the singular melodies of visionary Hildegard of Bingham, the modal minimalism of Arvo Pärt, harmonic palette of Purcell via the minimalism of Philip Glass, Balladeste's musical breadth is equally akin to the likes of Caroline Shaw and Liam Byrne as the Madras String quartet and Silk Road Ensemble.
Bristol locals JOW (Pete Judge on trumpet, James Gow on cello) will be joining them performing tracks from their new EP ‘the one that does not go straight home’.
